DUTCHESS COUNTY BASKETBALL RULES

  1. Once a family chooses a non-resident parish as the center of their religious life and applies to have their child/children play as non-resident member(s) of the parish, ALL their children must play for that parish. Additionally, a player who is legally accepted as a non-resident member of a parish must continue to play for that parish. Players cannot jump back and forth.

  2. A player that is chosen for a position on their home parish team (including Division A teams and Division B teams) must remain with their parish.

  3. A child that cannot secure a position on a team in their resident parish will be placed on an adjoining parish team by the County Coordinator. A child that had been placed previously due to this rule, and again this year cannot secure a position on a team in their resident parish, will be placed at the parish he/she played for last year.

  4. IAABO Board Officials (including probationary officials) are mandatory in the following leagues (Division A & B): all high school leagues, boys’ varsity, junior varsity, tyro, and girls’ junior varsity and girls’ varsity. IAABO Board Athletic Directors may not referee league games in their own parish. In the event that a referee does not show up the two coaches can agree to either play with one referee or allow the Athletic Director to referee. If no agreement is reached, the game must be rescheduled. Coaches cannot referee games in their division. Parents are not permitted to referee any game their child plays in.

  5. Each team must have an adult (not necessarily the coach) who will be responsible for the team and its followers.

  6. Postponements are to be avoided except for extraordinary circumstances such as weather and unavailability of gyms. Coaches and player vacations, etc. are not valid reasons.

  7. In keeping with the spirit of CYO emphasis on participation, all players in Division A & B leagues MUST play one quarter start to finish in each game. Coaches MUST show in the scorebook what quarter each player played in.

  8. Minimum roster for Division A is to be 10 players.

  9. No three point shot will be used during league or County playoff games.

  10. Eligibility protests must be submitted in writing to County Coordinator within 48 hours of the conclusion of the game in question. There are no game condition protests.

  11. Players on any Girls’ or Boys' H.S. Varsity team may not participate in any Dutchess County CYO league.

  12. CYO pledge or prayer is to be said before all games.

  13. It is the responsibility of the Athletic Director to report to the CYO County Coordinator any team that participates in a CYO game with eight or less players.

  14. In all boys’ division, Tyro, Junior Varsity, and Varsity, the official men’s regulation basketball will be used.
